Hi everyone. I decided to try the speech recognition feature of Microsoft Office 2003. The components installation went smoothly. However, when I follow the Microsoft Word help instructions and go to control panel, speech, I get an error. "The requested task could not be carried out because the necessary engine could not be created". As a result, I can not use the speech recognition feature of Microsoft Word. I am using Windows XP. Does anyone have a solution for my problem?
please outline your steps a bit. You'd go to control panel, then speech and then you'd create an engine. its a bit of a tedious process... include error messages, everything. Either on this post or as a pm.
I go to control panel and select speech. The error in my previous post pops up, along with the following. "Please select a different audio device and/or a different speech engine."
I click ok and the speech recognition tab of the speech dialog is displayed. The language combo box says, "Microsoft U.S. English Recognizer v6.1". Clicking New... shows the error mentioned in my previous post, along with the "use a different speech engine and/or audio device" message. I then click ok to return to the speech recognition dialog.
When I press escape to close the speech dialog, a RunDll error occurs.
I am trying to capture the RunDll error message for posting. Is there a method I can use to copy/paste an error message displayed on the screen?
If you use jaws, virtualize the window by pressing control insert W when the error is displayed It brings up a read only box with the message, so you use the normal select/clipboard commands. It sounds like you have something rather screwed up.. i'll research your problem a bit further.. or if someone else could--it would be greatly apreciated, as i leave Tomorrow for my audition at the berklee college of music and will be back on Tuesday the 5th.
When I press Escape to close the speech dialog (with the speech recognition tab displayed), the following error occurs.
RUNDLL
An exception occurred while trying to run
"C:WINDOWSsystem32shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:Program FilesCommon
FilesMicrosoft SharedSpeechsapi.cpl",Speech"
OK
I have not made any modifications to the system other than installing the speech recognition feature via Microsoft Word mentioned in my first post. Any help would be appreciated. I have no solution.
